An example of the Apollo lunar module cue cards for a contingency emergency vehicle transfer (EVT) in lunar orbit can be found in this Apollo 14 document on page 21. The undocked, unstable "push off" by the commander and lunar module pilot is interesting. This illustration shows the LM cue card locations. The EVT cue cards were stowed until needed. On all the lunar landings, the two portable life support system (PLSS) backpacks were left on the lunar surface. The commander and lunar module pilot would have used the two oxygen purge systems (OPS) (waist-mounted) for a contingency EVT. The OPS each had a 30 minute duration. They were not rechargeable in flight. So, had a contingency EVT been necessary on the J-missions, I guess the command module pilot might have conducted the transearth EVA with just an umbilical line to retrieve the SIM bay film canisters. |

From the EVT cue cards: CDR unstow lifeline/tethers - LHSSC... attach waist tether hooks to PGA (connect to LMP RH side, route in front of LMP & behind CDR & connect to CDR LH side, verify hooks locked) What length was the lifeline?

Armstrong and Aldrin left their PLSSs on the lunar surface, but the PLSS is included in some of the orbital contingency EVA procedures found in the Apollo 11 "Final EVA Procedures" document dated May 26, 1969:
- LM prep for contingency EVA (2 OPS)
- LM prep for contingency EVA (OPS-PLSS)
- LM prep for contingency EVA (2 PLSS/OPS)
