In my forthcoming "Sigma 7" book I relate at length the story of Cece Bibby and her painting of the logo on the first three crewed orbital Mercury spacecraft (with many thanks to a collectSPACE regular who shared a lengthy correspondence with Cece with me). But Cece left the Cape prior to the flight of Gordon Cooper and therefore did not get to paint the "Faith 7" logo on the side of his spacecraft. For the book I am now researching and writing on the Faith 7 mission, does anyone know who then painted the star-shaped logo on Cooper's spacecraft? |

There is a picture of a male technician painting the Faith 7 insignia on page 119 of Peterson's Book of Man In Space Vol. One, The First Small Step. The individual is not named, but is described as not being a professional sign painter. |

The answer to this question can be found on page 72 of our book, "Spaceshots and Snapshots." He is McDonnell draftsman B.R. Schuster. |
