Does anyone know where (or if) there is a video of John Young's 'lunar grand prix' with Charlie Duke's comments attached?

I can find several silent videos of the event and sound only tracks of Duke commenting on the event but none where the two are combined.

Eddie, short of some "whiz kid" AV trickery I doubt you will find such a sequence.

From memory, John Young's test drive was shot with a 16mm Maurer movie camera. And the occasional sequence I have seen on TV over the years has been a badly matched and undoubtedly incomplete AV mash up.

Don't know about the entire Grand Prix, but I believe that a short video/audio segment was included in the documentary, For All Mankind.

It's included in the NASA film "Apollo 16: Nothing So Hidden..."

The Apollo 16 cuff checklists show a "gran prix" at Station 3 on EVA-1, and another "gran prix" during EVA closeout on EVA-3.

The closeout timeline also had the LMP use the 16mm DAC to film the CDR as he walked back to the LM from the LRV final parked site.

Apparently the second "gran prix" was dropped because the 16mm DAC camera was out of battery power. So there was no DAC footage taken during the EVA-3 closeout activities. From the transcripts:

07 02 11 01 LMP-EVA Dust - motion - Okay. No more - Okay, Tony; we're not doing any Grand Prix anymore, are we?

07 02 11 13 CC Negative.

07 02 11 18 LMP-EVA You're clipping badly, Tony. Say again?

07 02 11 20 CC Negative. No Grand Prix.

My memory isn't as good as it once was, so please forgive me if I sound confused, but I believe the "Grand Prix" was originally supposed to happen on Apollo 15. Irwin's DAC camera jammed and he didn't get any film of Scott driving the Rover. That may be why it was pushed back to Apollo 16. That may also be why they gave themselves 2 opportunities to film it. They were determined to get film of the Rover in action. As you recall, Schmitt ended up getting some really good photos of Cernan test driving the Rover on Apollo 17.

It seems like the designers of the flight equipment always wanted photos or video of their product. Apollo 11 and 12 astronauts spent a lot of time shooting photos of various parts of the LM after landing. Those photos were very early in the surface timeline. Apparently, they were that important.

All the more surprising that there aren't any photos of the LRV deployment. Perhaps because it was a two-man operation?

Regarding the Grand Prix with sound: it is on the SpacecraftFilms DVD for Apollo 16, of course.

Yes. That was early on EVA-3 before Scott and Irwin headed out to the Rille.

On Apollo 15, the checklists had the grand prix after Station 8 on EVA-2, and also after Station 14 on EVA-3. Both in the vicinity of the LM.

Early on EVA-1, the LMP was to use the 16mm camera to film the CDR/LRV during the LRV post-deployment test drive. But the film in the camera jammed.

I think the 70mm cameras were unstowed after the LRV deployment.
