Here is a video that shows the complete Apollo 17 lunar module's accent stage leaving the moon and instead of the footage stopping at a certain altitude, it continues to show pitchover and the accent stage flying along the lunar horizon until it disappears to a small speck.

I have never seen this complete footage and wanted to share it here for those who may have never seen it either.

To this day, camera controller Ed Fendell still regrets not being able to follow the ascent stage for longer than he did. I think he did a good job holding the shot as long as he did because of the time delay he had to anticipate and deal with. Fendell deserved the Emmy Award he was later presented with.

One of the Apollo books has a great quote on this type of coverage. Paraphrasing,

"If you had told ancient people we would one day send men to the moon, they would have believed you. If you told them we would have live color movies of the event, they would not have believed you - they would think you're some kind of magician or shaman".

The quote is from Spacecraft Films' Live From The Moon:
If, somehow, Galileo and Johannes Kepler, Sir Isaac Newton were to learn that humans had left the surface of the Earth and travelled into space, they would think, "That might be possible." If we would then tell them that we humans had captured images where the motion was captured as well, they would think, "That's a miracle."
