Stuck in my mind is the memory of watching a clip of Ed White's spacewalk. Given that the EVA was not broadcast live, when was the film released and how was it first broadcast? Just wondering if those just a few years older might recall. |

NASA mission film of the White EVA appeared on US TV networks within a day or two of splashdown. as I recall (I was very young at the time.... Certainly within a week. It was regarded as spectacular stuff.Michael Cassutt |

If memory serves, the first time it was played almost in entirety was at the post flight press conference with narration by Jim and Ed..smaller clips appeared during news broadcasts prior to the press junket..but my memory is old and all dried up.. |

John you are correct. What was really neat was listening to the walk live on TV and radio and waiting for the next issue of LIFE magazine to come out!It really was a big deal back then. I remember all the older people comparing it to and talking about Buck Rogers. Back then all the space shots were really a big deal and every time the guys did something new made it even greater! TV coverage was really great back then and I can remember recording it all on my tape recorder. To relive those days again! |

Fortunately, I have a father who is an engineer with a strong science fiction interest. He had me watching the Gemini mission broadcasts, allowing for the EVA to be one of my earliest memories. I was just looking for the background facts since my memories from the age of three are a bit sketchy. |

As a side note, White's and McDivitt's suits from this mission have been taken out of the capsule at the NASM for refurbishment, and will most likely not be re-installed in the display, due to present and future degradations. |

On our Gemini set we put White's narration from the post flight press conference back together with the footage from the EVA in its entirety. Makes for a nice presentation.Mark |
