Does anyone have a good explaination as to why there were only two TV transmissions from Apollo 9. I know they had one planned for during the EVA.
The Spaceflight DVD (which if you do not have, you MUST get, all of them)says that they were testing the LM's TV systems and there were no transmissions from the CM.
You would think NASA would want to get as much publicity as possible.
I can understand that at that time without TDRS there were not enough relay stations on earth for continious live communications, but Apollo 7 managed to have seven transmissions.

I would imagine it had to do with Schweickart being sick. They probably nixed any transmissions while he was sick, then when he got better, the mission timeline got scrambled to fit in his EVA. And when the timeline gets scrambled, non-essential activities like TV transmissions get moved off the timeline.

For what ever reason, on Apollo 9 no TV transmissions from the CM were planned. In fact, they did not carry a CM television camera (onboard television was not installed). The mission of Apollo 9 was sufficiently packed with work (given the LM and PLSS checkout) that CM television wasn't included in the schedule. The LM TV was designed just to test the system in prep for the first lunar landing.

A longer TV transmission was planned from the LM during the EVA, but because the schedule was changed due to Rusty's sickness this was limited. The original plan was for him to take the TV outside with him.
