In Al Reinhart's For All Mankind, an Astronaut says "It won't fail because of me"
can anyone put a name to that voice for me please?

I believe that was Thomas Mattingly.

I can confirm that it is indeed Mattingly...I attended the premier of this film at which he presented an introduction and commented on this quote. He also found it interesting that his voice is heard more than anyone else's in the narration.

Had I known at the time how difficult his autograph would be to get, I would have taken along a few more items than I did!

I too wondered about this and some other phrases in this great documentary. Thank you for clarifying that.

I have a copy of the video and one day intend to buy the DVD. Can someone tell me if it is true the DVD subtitles identify each speaker on the soundtrack.

Thanks

Yep. Toss that old tape and upgrade to the DVD version. It has subtitles under everyone so you can see who they are. There is also some good extras such as Alan Bean talking and showing some of his paintings.
The soundtrack is also in 5.1 surround sound, so the Saturn launch sounds quite nice!

If I remember correctly, the DVD subtitles do not say who is speaking (which I'd hoped for) but rather which astronaut is being shown on screen. And many of the subtitles were wrong, sadly. Having said that, it is a whole different experience to see it in sharp DVD, and the extras are wonderful.
