First post here and apologies for not really being a contributor, but I simply have little interest in space-related items. However, I am here to see about a potential value on a small collection of patches that I have. My mother used to work for AB Emblem in the 1980's and my understanding is that NASA contracted them for patches. I have 27 patches from Discovery, Columbia, and Challenger that she brought home. All have been stored in a box and I dug them out recently to look through. I'm not interested in gouging anyone, I would prefer to sell as a lot and if there is a unicorn in there, then perhaps it will make someones day. That said, it appears that the going listing price on eBay tends to be around the 8 to 15$ mark. I've no idea if they are actually 'selling' at those prices. Sight unseen, would the experts here think that $250 for the lot be a fair price? Thanks in advance. |

If it's a box of common souvenir patches, they tend to value toward $3-5 each individually, but less as a lot, but you might have someone have a look at the actual items, there are potential variations that could drive the price up for individual patches. A 25 patch lot of random, common shuttle crew patches could sit for a month on ebay for $50. |

Thanks for the advice. Not really what I wanted to hear, but expected. I'll poke around the forum a bit and perhaps find a kid just starting out in collecting and make his day with them. |

For what its worth, Liembo is a trusted and respected member of the community and in my opinion one of the patch experts on this forum. Laying out all the patches on a table and sending a photo to them or posting here would be the quickest way to check if there are any special patches in the group. That way you could get fair value for anything out of the ordinary.I also use crewpatches.com as a reference guide, it has detailed descriptions and photos for all shuttle patches and their variations up to 1986 missions. Click on the "Embroidered Patches" box at the top of the page, shuttle missions are at the bottom. This is a great reference for verifying which manufacturer or version of a patch you may have. Hope it helps. |

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the other fellow and for the links. I just wanted a round about value. I seriously doubt that I have any unicorns in the bunch and these hold little sentimental value. Not sure what I'll do with them for the moment. Meanwhile, will check out the link you provided, thank you! |

As your mother worked at AB Emblem in the 80's, there is a possibility that in your box of 27 shuttle patches there might be one or some with a prototype or sample sticker/labels on the backs of them? If you look at this post on the STS-48 crew patch variation, you will see an example of one of these sticker/labels on the back of that STS-48 patch. These round black or white A-B EMBLEM sticker/labels are quite rare so could be worth a fair bit of money depending on which patch (prototype or sample) the sticker/labels are attached to. If you have any with the sticker/labels on them please post a back image photo here. |
