I'm seeking advice about what to do with a Mercury Program artifact I've inherited. It's a 40"x30" printed mockup of Gordon Cooper's control panel in Spacecraft #20 mounted on cardboard stock.

I believe this was produced by McDonnell Aircraft and is interesting except the right edge was damaged by water and mold. What I don't know is if this is a fairly common artifact and isn't work retaining, or if it is rare enough to retain even in its damaged condition. Does anyone have insight into this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Well I've never seen one before!

I think it would be worth offering for sale before disposal, even if the sale price is minor.

The diagram appears to come from the NASA SEDR-104 Project Mercury Familiarization Manual 20 Dec 1962. This covers Cooper's Spacecraft #20 in great detail. It is available for download from Scribd here.

Thanks for your advice, Axman, PeterO and astrobock. I now plan to hold on to it, building on what Axman wrote.

As astrobock wrote, it is interesting in its current condition. I remember it before the damage, so I compare it to back then; yet it remains an interesting artifact.

PeterO, thanks for the link to the familiarization manual. I have a prior version but not that one.

A good paper conservator can get most of the discoloration and mold off, if it is worth the cost.

Thanks, Altidude. That's a good suggestion.
