More of a curiosity, but does anyone have any clue as to what is currently behind the recent three digit prices some recent shuttle program patches have recently been commanding on eBay?There have been several individual patches (admittedly what I presume are fairly rare ) fetching $100+, $200+, even $300+ prices. Best as I can tell from bidder histories, most bid wars have been between two bidders, with most of the patches originating from a single seller. Been impressive to watch. |

I don't think all the patches you are referring to are basic shuttle program patches, but are the rare payload and science experiment patches, and ISS construction/assembly, and the ISS Payload Operations Increment patches. Most of these patches were only manufactured in very small numbers for the NASA technicians and other operatives working on those micro gravity, science, ISS assembly and supply projects. Yes, there are quite a few 'reproductions' of these patches out there, but the ones being sold at this time on eBay are the genuine originals by a cS member. |

I agree that most of these are hard-to-find payload patches, and the free market will do what a free market does, but I think this will set the bar fairly high for these types of patches for a good while moving forward. As a person who occasionally sells patches of this type, that's a good thing, but as as a collector first I do find it a bit discouraging. | |
