I picked this up a number of years ago on eBay, mostly because I liked how it looked as many of the early Soviet models that I’ve seen aren't as aesthetically pleasing!

I know very little about it or its authenticity, however from what I gather it was presented to Leonid Voskresenskiy, who led the launch teams for both the first Sputnik and Vostock launches. I’ve read about Voskresenskiy in "Sputnik and the Soviet Space Challenge" by Siddiqi, a fantastic reference book. Voskresenskiy seems to have been a very interesting character, one of Korelov's most trusted and loved deputies and an important character in the early days of space exploration.

I really love this piece for its aesthetic quality, but I would really like to know more about its history if it has one (that is unless it’s a cheap knock-off!). I'd also really appreciate it if anyone can help with an accurate translation to English as Google translate struggles!

I am reliably informed that it says...
For Professor Voskresenskiy L.A.
In memory of 50 years old
from the staff of Kafedra branch No 308
(and MAI is Moscow Air Institute)

Thanks so much for the translation, it's a great help! Voskresenskiy passed away at age 52 so it’'s interesting that he was gifted it nearing the end of his life.

Does anyone know anything about the Kafedra branch that they might be able to tell me? Thanks!

How about Slava Gerovitch?

I emailed him awhile ago and even though he has moved on to mathematics, I will bet he can offer some help?
