I see what you mean about the custom sizes. I don't know of a service that can do that, but if you by any chance want to pick from an impressive choice of print sizes, at great quality, prices, and services, I recommend mpix.com. Like, maybe you could put the image you are thinking of with some others into a 16x20 collage, and print that. |

Well, I added atypical white borders to otherwise standard 8x10 image (for inscription /signature). Hence the total dimensions 12.7x14.7. I received one offer from a Denver based lab, asking $31 per print and $25 for shipping. Not sure whether it's worth the hassle. Would extra quality and/or uncommon image add extra value? I'm in Vienna, Austria, so it'd be a remote operation. |

I have made positive experiences from a lab based in the UK, but with outlets in Germany and other places. They use Fuji paper which is a plus in my opinion. |

The non-standard paper size cost more because somebody has to cut the paper stock to a non-standard size.A change in image dimensions should not add cost because nominating the image size and selecting border or borderless printing is a standard action for all photo printing machines. |

Is there a specific eason for the 12.7x14.7 size? If you only want an 8x10 sized print, you could use a 9x12, 10x13, 11x14 or similar sizes and leave the border. Then trim or get a mat that is open to the size that shows the photo and inscription. Personally, I've used Printique often and have been happy with the prints and customer service. Note, they will be closing for the upcoming Passover holiday. |

Good question! A very nice 8x10 photo with the wide/white borders and inscription and signature on them has inspired me. At that time, I didn't know it would be that difficult/expensive to get it done. I'm considering Printique as well, they provide great/secure packaging. No custom sizes though, 11x14 would be the closest option, leaving 1.5inch for the inscription and signature. |

Digital photo printing allows the scaling of the image on the photo paper. For example, if you want an 8 x 10 print with a 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch border, you specify these dimensions in the pre-print settings. You can specify any border width. If you want borderless printing then this can sometimes cost more because some photo print machines required additional steps or waste more ink printing borderless images, and can also require more machine servicing over time. Selecting non-standard paper sizes will make finding an off the shelf frame or matte difficult as a custom item would need to be made. This is no problem for some people, others want the convenience and ease. |

You might want to look at Bay Photo Lab. I have never used their service but a high end portrait photographer uses/suggested them. They offer a huge variety of sizes along with custom made sizes. |

Thank you for your inputs. Agreed; usually prefer convenience/ease as well. How does archival framing/matting work? Emblems/patches would require extra custom work, right? Bay Photo Lab came up a lot in my searches. I've already contacted them. |
