I have been collecting signed copies of this Apollo 11 cover, as well as a few with flown Apollo 11 fragments attached, for several years and am now ready to develop a display for a few of my favorites.

I picked this one up at a very low cost several years ago, so I have trouble believing these are all authentic but am not an expert on a few of these signatures. I don't want to waste display space on it if it's fake. Any opinions?

I'm not an expert, but I'd suggest asking Steve Zarelli for an email opinion.

A couple of people asked, so here is the collection I've accumulated so far.

Wow! From a quick glance, everything looks good to me and with vintage signatures, however, a more later or rushed-up signature for Kraft and maybe Kranz. With Scott's autograph, though, it does appear quite large than his normal format, but I think is fine.

Did you get all of them at one time from a single source as they all seem to fit nicely in an Artcraft C76 first day of issue set. Very nice indeed, in my opinion.

Great collection of #C76 signed covers!

This is my major collecting interest since the First Man on the Moon stamp was designed by my father Paul Calle.

I have the FDC's signed by each of the Apollo astronauts and many support personnel, scientists, celebrities, etc. Also the cast of the Neil Armstrong movie First Man- Director Damien Chazelle, Ryan Gosling, author James Hansen, screenwriter Josh Singer, etc.

Who doesn't love C76 FDC's?!

Like yourself, Chris, I love the Artcraft (and Fleetwood) cachet covers for C76 and used a bunch of them years ago for acquiring Space Age signatures, including crew signed and individual astronauts.

But not restricted so much to Artcraft and Fleetwood as I did later include other C76 cachets, too. Such is the case for the German/U.S. rocket development team as many different cachet covers were used, however, my Wernher von Braun is on an Artcraft and also a Fleetwood.

Besides the C76 issues, Chris, many other signatures were captured on Apollo 11 mission event covers with cachets from Dow-Unicover, NASA Exchange, Heritage Crafts, SCC, along with a few other designs. If anyone out there has an extra von Braun Heritage Crafts cachet cover signed by the rocket pioneer, I am definitely interested.

I was just wondering though if there is anyone missing from your signed C76 collection that you would like to include?

Ken, thanks for the kind words.

I did not find a single source; this collection has been on ongoing quest for several years. Most have been eBay finds, though I got the Collins through a Novaspace signing about 10 years ago.

I just acquired the Armstrong a few days ago from a stamp dealer in Florida who acquired it in an estate sale. I had a blue cover like this from Florian as a placeholder for several years until I finally found the matching black one. I was very happy to finally find one!

The multi-signed item came from eBay about a year ago and only cost $100. At that price I assumed at least some of the signatures might be bad, but figured if only one or two were good it would still be an interesting addition to my collection.

I’m always on the lookout for more of these covers. I especially want to find Conrad and Mitchell signatures in order to capture all 12 moonwalkers, but I am not limiting the collection to just the 12. I’ll continue to grow it with as many of the early pioneers as I can (and as budget allows). There aren’t many on the market but it keeps me interested in the hobby, which is the main goal.

All times are CT (US)
