I may have a small piece of the ticker tape from the parade in Chicago celebrating the first lunar landing in 1969. I purchased a small piece in a folder with a fancy COA with the letters "PE" from the heading (Teletype Corp).Do I have a quirky souvenir from an historic event or was I duped by a nameless eBay seller? It is well presented but I have not seen another anywhere else for ten years. |

If you are willing to post photos that might help with feedback. It's an interesting question... |

I was in Chicago the day of the parade and recall clouds of ticker tape coming down on the astronauts during the motorcade through the city and finally the gathering area at the then named Civic Center Plaza (now Daley Plaza). Chicago (read, Mayor Richard J. Daley) was determined to shower the Apollo 11 crew with MUCH more ticker tape than any other city in the country. I also recall seeing ticker tape being swept into mountainous piles by Chicago's Streets and Sanitation Department for disposal. It was like a military operation. Never thought to save some for myself. By the time I got on the train to go back home a few hours later, the streets were clean, as if the parade never happened. |

I was also at the Chicago parade with my Mother. In those days, the windows on the buildings opened, and at one point, a small bag of confetti landed in the street about 6-8 feet in front of me. I hesitated to do anything, but my Mother encouraged me to run out in the street to get it. How often does a Mom do that? Eh, I waited too long, and someone else got it.I, too, remember seeing the event ticker-tape, but also didn't grab any. Had I known it would be worth something... |

I've got a couple of the same ticket tape souvenirs said to be from the Chicago visit of the Apollo 11 crew in 1969. It appears to be a well-done presentation, impressive, and somewhat of an unusual souvenir, but it may be difficult to verify its authenticity. I guess if anyone had been at the parade celebration and kept a piece of a used ticket tape paper, it can be used as a comparison to those of the display "Moon Conquered" presentation by Teletype Corp. |

On a slightly different topic, I did grab a souvenir from the Apollo 8 motorcade through Chicago in January 1969. Chicago had these red, white and blue cardboard posters printed that read "Chicago Welcomes Apollo 8 Crew." There is an image of such a sign on page 45 of "Moonshots & Snapshots of Project Apollo" by Bisney and Pickering. When Stafford and Cernan visited Chicago after the Apollo 10 flight (Young had other commitments), the signs were reprinted with the "8" replaced by an "X." |

I found this item on eBay 174348903165 related to this discussion. A little high on price I feel. Thoughts? A punch card from the Apollo 11 Ticker Tape Parade - August 13, 1969 - From estate of a longtime NYC based space memorabilia collector. This unique piece was dated on top with the event and date. |
