I recently bought an Apollo 13 cover and this sticker in a lot. On the back of this sticker it makes reference to astronauts and other official uses by NASA. Is this a special sticker from NASA given to the astronauts or other NASA officials?

It's not an exclusive special sticker given only to astronauts and officials as it may seem to apply, but was produced for NASA for a variety of purposes. But the astronauts, though, along with NASA and space contractor workers, had access to the Apollo flight mission decal stickers as well. This particular decal type started with Apollo 11 through Apollo-Soyuz. |

Ok, sounds like kind of official but non-official. If anyone knows you do. Thanks Ken. |

The wording may stem from NASA's efforts to control the use of the Apollo insignia after what the agency saw as the over commercialization of the Apollo 11 emblem (reportedly, the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was toilet paper printed with the Apollo 11 mission patch). NASA extended federal protections on the use of the Apollo insignia of the same type that prohibits the commercial reproduction of the Seal of the President of the United States. The protections were later overturned, but for a time, only items that were authorized by NASA were permitted to use the mission insignia. |
