Okay, here is the craziest post I have put on cS yet. I believe I have a section of Apollo 11 DAC 16mm film. this section is about 8" long and has 27 frames of I believe Buzz Aldrin on the lunar surface. I am fairly positive this is Apollo 11 footage. And in the tractor border there is printed text that can only be seen with a bright back light. Has anyone ever seen copies of this film or are there examples of mission flown DAC film out there. This one makes me break out in goose bumps. Any information is appreciated.

The original flight film remains intact in cold storage at Johnson Space Center.Duplicates were made and distributed, including to other NASA centers. I'll ask the archive producer who I worked with on "Apollo 11" to see if he can discern anything about the source of this segment, but it is not the original film that was aboard the mission. |

Thank you Robert, I had no idea if copies would have the Ektachrome information in the border. Very cool item and I would appreciate any information you can find. |

Chuck, here is what Stephen Slater, archive producer on "Apollo 11" said: I don't have a positive ID on the Ektachrome keycodes, but my guess is that these prints would have been made from inter-negs created from the flight film... so we're a few generations away from the original here.Salient point though, this is definitely some kind of dupe, and we know that a lot were made for release to the news media! |

Robert, thank you for the information. I found according to the Kodak site the "EASTMAN EKTACHROME R Print film, 7388 for prints from projection contrast reversal originals" was only produced from 1966 through 1970. Kodak also has a site to date Ekctachrome filmAs I read it, this is film from 1969, so still very cool find. |
