I found this autopenned signed photo of Henry Hartsfield. Found no other match with this autopen, but is surely not genuine signed I think.

Looks legit to me. Mattingly is an autopen though. |

I have the same lithograph in my collection with a good Hartsfield and an autopen Mattingly.I am not sure why Hank signed them as I know he also had an autopen pattern but i like it anyway. |

As Greggy and Chuck have pointed out, the Hartsfield is genuine on this STS-4 crew litho, in my opinion. There was only a common-known or single autopen of the Group 7/veteran shuttle astronaut. But there are some cases where a crew litho could be signed by a printed format of signatures, but that was usually the case for certain later shuttle crews, but this one is not and contains a commonly used Mattingly autopen. |

Significantly different to the in-person Hartsfield's that I have. I guess he changed his signature over the years. |

I talked to him at a signing event a few years back about how neat his signature was. He commented that he had changed it when he started signing more often. He did so that it was smoother and more legible for those wanting his signature. Just the cool guy he was. |

This was his later signature (through the mail, on an older photo): |

Here is a scan of a Hartsfield autograph I received through the mail years ago. Looks similar to the one in the above post. |

Col. Hartsfield did change his signature styles throughout the decades, but only 2-3 times that I can recall. The one depicted above is what I refer to as the "horizontal line crossings" that I have as well represented in my own autograph binders. I am not exactly sure when the horizontal pattern first got started, but I am thinking during the late 1980's, and at times, it did continue years afterwards. But during his shuttle flights from 1982-85, his second and more common pattern had been used, and not the horizontal format until later.
