Can I ask members on their thoughts about this item on eBay 192682240537: "Apollo 7 Flown American Flag signed by Schirra and Cunningham"?The patch appears to be the crew souvenir "knitted" version. Do you agree? Is it plausible that both these items were flown? |

Okay, I am sorry but I do not like this item at all. Blowing up the photograph of Walt Cunningham as much as I can with out total pixelation I see no sign of the flown inscription. Also who is "me"? "Flown on Apollo 7 for me by Walt Cunningham." I am sorry but I would rather buy one from Walt directly for less money and have no question of authenticity. In my opinion it is more plausible that neither item was flown. Again this is only my opinion. |

Well, if you follow the link and check this item on eBay you can see it was sold by RR auction in April 2018 with pictures of Wally and Walt signing the frame with the flag in it and, probably, already the inscription "flown for me..." on the piece. Sadly, impossible to read the RR auction COA, could be interesting to ask the seller a pic of that alone. Though I doubt Walt would sign it if fake. My 2 cents... By the way, I'm not and I don't know the seller. |

Here is the original RR Auction listing. It sold for $1,282.58 (with buyer's premium) in October 2017. American flag flown aboard the Apollo 7 mission, 6x4, flight certified below in black ballpoint by former NASA technician Walt Salyer, "Flown on Apollo 7 for me by Walt Cunningham." The flag is double-matted and framed with an embroidered Apollo VII patch, both of which are affixed to the reverse of a photographic reproduction entitled "Task Activities on Lunar Surface," with the lower border of mat signed in black felt tip, "Walt Cunningham, Apollo 7" and "Wally Schirra, Apollo 7, Cdr." The presentation measures to an overall size of 16.5x14, and features a window on the backing to view the reverse. In fine condition. Originates from the personal collection of Salyer, a friend of Cunningham's from their days in the Navy. He became one of five space suit technicians at NASA who maintained crew equipment through all of the space programs—from Mercury through Apollo. Accompanied by two color photos of Schirra and Cunningham posing with the item at the time of signing. |

Were both the flag and the patch flown? |

That's the $64,000 question. Either, neither or both items, intriguing. |

The original RR Auction listing only represents the flag as flown. The patch was framed with it. |

It is nice to have the name and position of the person who consigned the flag. That information is not in the eBay listing and as sad as it sounds any auction house can sell an item that is represented as flown but never was. I am always skeptical. |

From my experience, RR Auction doesn't wade into the territory you are suggesting. |
