I've acquired what I believe to be an original signature of John Glenn with inscription to BF Goodrich Aerospace on a large photo of Glenn in his first space suit during a fitting in Akron Ohio circa 1959-1961. Glenn is sitting in a chair labeled B.F. Goodrich Aviation Products. The inscription reads "To B.F. Goodrich Aerospace with best regards. I remember those "fitting" days in Akron very well, more importantly, it worked!" I'm still trying to gain some provenance. This belonged to someone's uncle who they said was a chemist at BF Goodrich back in the 1960's. I can only assume, the photo hung in some part of the Goodrich offices in Akron Ohio and then later, maybe when that building or division was moved or ceased to exist, went home with this chemist. It was probably proudly displayed in his home and when the possessions of this uncle went to the nephew, he allowed it to be auctioned from the estate furnishings. I'm trying to figure out when Glenn would have signed and sent this to the company as it is somewhat obvious from the inscription that at least some time had passed between when the photo was taken and when he signed and sent it to the Aerospace division. Some research from Goodrich's company record archives suggests that it was possibly 1962-1963 or later in 1969 when it was reported Glenn sent correspondence and items to Goodrich/H.B. Warner. Also would like to know what value or historical significance this may have. Thanks for any opinions, feedback or advice!

Glenn signatures are rarely forged and this is not autopen. That being said, he signed a lot and this is not, in monetary terms, that valuable. |

This is a much more recent signature. Certainly not signed in the Mercury era. That said, I think it's a really cool photo with an interesting inscription. Just be sure that it is "live" ink and not a copy of the original signed photo. |

Thanks for the feedback! I would love to hear more if anyone else has any especially about when it may have been signed and sent to Goodrich. And if it's a good idea to remove from frame for further inspection or sell as is? I didn't mention before, but the bottom of the photo is showing some moisture damage. Thanks! | |
