eBay item 183383089495 has $900 bidding on a Neil Armstrong signed lithograph at the moment. Just looks so wrong.

The same seller has Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin listed as well. All come with a COA. Not convinced, in the slightest.

Well, it achieved 45 bids and $1275!

Noted that the seller was located in Moscow and that the inscription on the Neil lithograph reads, "With Best of Luck," which almost seems to be something a non-English native might try... don't you think most of us native English speakers would just write "Best of luck" if we were going to use that inscription at all? Adding the "with" kind of gives it away as suspect and odd. (And didn't Neil only wish luck to Mr. Gorsky [grin])?

(I'm not a detective but I play one on TV.)

Yes it definitely looks suspect.

I was going to bid for it as an example of a fake for my Autopen collection, but then the bids went mad.

First up the signature goes through the flag, I thought it was common knowledge that Armstrong never did this. Maybe a rare example. Thoughts?

Just de-faced a collectable WSS litho.

I agree with the comments regarding the wording but also the "Apollo 11" written underneath. I don't recall seeing that before.

There are authentic examples of Armstrong-signed NASA lithos where he has added the "Apollo 11" inscription below his autograph. For example, this one sold by RR Auction in September 2017. There are also examples where he added a flourish under "Apollo 11."

But the autograph in question is not authentic.

The "flag test," though generally true for all of Armstrong's autographs, was specifically a way to identify a particular style forgery sold by Peachstate Historical Consulting. There are authentic examples of Armstrong's signature that touch the flag, and he even signed physical flags, so the "test" should not be used alone to discredit an autograph.

It's not unusual to see an "Apollo 11" inscription on Armstrong signed lithos from around the time of the mission. However, they become much less common on examples from after the early 70s. I would assume that he added it less frequently as his mail requests escalated (or he simply wanted to spend less time signing photos.)

The piece in question is undoubtedly fake junk.

I find myself in the unusual position of having to disagree with Steve's assessment of this one.

In my opinion this is not 'fake junk' - this is genuine, 100% pure, grade A junk.

Arguably, it was already defaced by the postage stamp and the cancellation marks.

I never quite understood the practice of trying to turn lithos into philatelic collectibles.

True. A pal of mine (who isn't even a space collector) personally got Armstrong to sign a litho in the 80s, he even has a photo of him doing so, and the signature goes into the flag.

I assume that if he ever posted it here, many would say it's a fake.

The flag test is a pretty decent indicator, The truth is (of course) the signature first and foremost.
