Around 1995, I bought a watch that had been owned by Buzz Aldrin. My seller had bought it from a space memorabilia auction conducted in Los Angeles. I believe the auction house was Superior Stamp and Coin. It appeared in one of their auction catalogs circa 1993-1994. The watch is identified by serial number and my seller asked the auction company to send me a letter verifying that my watch was the one owned by Dr. Aldrin and auctioned off. They promptly did so and I filed the letter, along with a copy of the page from the auction catalog describing the watch and identifying it by serial number. Five years later I moved to a different state. As I was unpacking, I realized that I could not locate this letter. Without it I had no way of proving the watch's history, so I tried to contact the auction company. It had been sold to another company in St. Louis and I hit a dead end. So I've been beating myself up since then about being careless with the letter. This is a dive watch, specifically a Doxa 300T sea rambler, circa 1967. I'd be happy to e-mail or message a photo, I know that this is a long shot but I'm hoping there is a collector out there that still has a copy of the auction catalog and can help me verify the watch. Thanks for your help. |

I have a copy of the 1993 Superior catalog and just went through it pretty carefully, but couldn't find such a watch. Maybe someone else has it and can spot it, if it's there. Not the most helpful post, but just letting you know that we're trying! |

In the Superior Auction June 25-26 1994 auction there is a "Stainless Steel Lincoln VIP wristwatch " engraved E. Aldrin ex Buzz Aldrin, I guess this is not what you have? This was item 479. |

Thanks for checking. This is a dive watch, a Doxa Sea Rambler. It is a special edition for the U.S. Divers Co. I'm pretty sure that I bought the watch in 1995. And I believe he had had it for about a year. Also my memory is that Superior used to have two space auctions — one in the spring and one in the fall. |

Good job, NJSPACEFAN! Was it in the 1993 catalog? If so, what page? If not, was the serial number in the catalog listing? |
