Around 1995, I bought a watch that had been owned by Buzz Aldrin. My seller had bought it from a space memorabilia auction conducted in Los Angeles. I believe the auction house was Superior Stamp and Coin. It appeared in one of their auction catalogs circa 1993-1994.

The watch is identified by serial number and my seller asked the auction company to send me a letter verifying that my watch was the one owned by Dr. Aldrin and auctioned off. They promptly did so and I filed the letter, along with a copy of the page from the auction catalog describing the watch and identifying it by serial number.

Five years later I moved to a different state. As I was unpacking, I realized that I could not locate this letter. Without it I had no way of proving the watch's history, so I tried to contact the auction company. It had been sold to another company in St. Louis and I hit a dead end.

So I've been beating myself up since then about being careless with the letter.

This is a dive watch, specifically a Doxa 300T sea rambler, circa 1967. I'd be happy to e-mail or message a photo, I know that this is a long shot but I'm hoping there is a collector out there that still has a copy of the auction catalog and can help me verify the watch. Thanks for your help.

I have a copy of the 1993 Superior catalog and just went through it pretty carefully, but couldn't find such a watch. Maybe someone else has it and can spot it, if it's there. Not the most helpful post, but just letting you know that we're trying!

In the Superior Auction June 25-26 1994 auction there is a "Stainless Steel Lincoln VIP wristwatch " engraved E. Aldrin ex Buzz Aldrin, I guess this is not what you have? This was item 479.

Thanks for checking. This is a dive watch, a Doxa Sea Rambler. It is a special edition for the U.S. Divers Co.

I'm pretty sure that I bought the watch in 1995. And I believe he had had it for about a year. Also my memory is that Superior used to have two space auctions — one in the spring and one in the fall.

Good job, NJSPACEFAN! Was it in the 1993 catalog? If so, what page? If not, was the serial number in the catalog listing?

Hey Steve, no, it was the February 1995 catalog, page 62, lot 379. Happy to help Bob. That's what this community is for!
