There is a pen now being marketed on eBay that is described as follows: The space-flown metal inlay embedded in your pen is from the Lunar module pulley clamp and the Command module heat shield bolt. The inlaid metal is guaranteed for life to be the original metal as produced by Meriden Rolling Mill in Meriden, Connecticut, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from History in your Hands. Based on the above, it seems the inlay is the result of cutting down (or smelting) NASA Manned Flight Awareness Apollo 11 medallions. At just $15, it is not unreasonable for what is being offered, and this is not the first product to try to repurpose the medallions, but for those not familiar, it seemed like a good idea to post a caveat. |

I know that many of the medallions come with trace amounts of metal to begin with, so by melting them down and repurposing them as pens you're looking at "possible traces," surely?I understand the need to make a profit, you can't exist without one, but at this point I think it is bordering on the ridiculous. |

I guess it could be marketed like homeopathy - the greater the dilution, the stronger the effect. | |
