I came across this eBay auction for a Gemini XI flown flag and medallion. This is not my collecting field but, apart some confusion upon the mission on roman numbering (it's Gemini 11 and not 6), seems interesting stuff. No idea if genuine or not, but could be of some interest for any of you. |

The Fliteline medal is genuine. And probably the flag. The problem with the flag, is unless it is signed on the flag, there is no way to tell it has been flown. You can take any flag and put it with the letter and say it was flown. Not to mention the price is ridiculously high. |

Although you are absolutely correct, Fred, that no one can fully authenticate a flag's flown status based on it alone, there is, I believe, a growing trend among collectors to prefer flags (among other items) that remain in the same state as which they were flown (i.e. without any type of inscription). It doesn't make for an ideal sale situation in the current market, but provenance — including a well-documented and verifiable chain of ownership — can help instill confidence. | |
