I bought an "Authentic Space Shuttle Tile Material made in the Late 1970's for the First Space Shuttle" and I received the white small glass foam pieces in a transparent box with a piece of paper inside saying that this material was produced in the late 1970s in the Lockheed Space and Missiles Facility in Sunnyvale Ca. In this paper they say that I can find more information in spaceshuttletile.com but this page does not exist.

Are this tiles real? Where they come from? Hope someone can help me! Thank you!

I believe you have a low-temperature reusable surface insulation (LRSI). These tile where made for the shuttle Columbia but never used and are sold as souvenirs in several formats and through different space gift shops. Although not rare at all, I do believe that they are all authentic, at least all that I have come into contact with.

I own them in both the Kennedy Space Center framed Columbia heat shield tile display and the LI-900 tile sample sold at the KSC gift shop. I hope this helps.

It helped so much! Here's some info.

I'm still worried about the "Space Shutlle Tile Company," there are not traces of it in internet.

These aren't shuttle tiles, but rather a sample of similar material used to make shuttle tiles produced in the ramp up to the first flight of Columbia. If they were space shuttle tiles, they could not be exported outside the United States.

As for the "Space Shuttle Tile Company," you must be looking at an old package. The company dates back to 1997 and sold off its last holdings a number of years ago.

Great! I feel better now cause I bought 10 pieces of this material. I'm in Melbourne now and I don't want to have any problem flying back to Mexico.
