A baseball signed by Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin cira. 1972 supposedly from a Yankees batboy, and with Apollo 11 notation below all signatures, just sold in Lelands sports auction for $11.7K.

Michael Collins does private signings with Novaspace and of course he refuses to sign baseballs at any price and for anyone. He indicated he may have signed a baseball in the past but I have tried without success to get a signed baseball from him.

Armstrong also refused to sign anything, let alone baseballs, for several years up to his death.

Do you imply that Armstrong and Collins aren't real because Armstrong didn't sign in his last years and Collins hasn't signed balls through Novaspace?

The Armstrong comment does seem unnecessary since you acknowledge that the ball is (allegedly) from 1972.

But I think the Collins comment goes beyond his Novaspace policies.

That said, I can see him making an exception due to the other two signing it and the fact that he was signing it for a bat boy during, what I would assume to be, an appearance at the ballpark.

Collins retired from NASA in 1970, Armstrong in 1971 and Aldrin in March 1972.

Can anyone find information on how or why they'd be together at a game in Yankee Stadium in 1972?

Aldrin resigned from NASA in July 1971 (he retired from the Air Force in March 1972).

But your question is a good one. My quick search didn't turn up any obvious hits to the crew being at Yankee Stadium (but it was quick).

All times are CT (US)
