Topic: Help translating cosmonaut's inscription

A number of years ago, I purchased a signed photo of cosmonaut Lev Dyomin. It's a large piece (about 7x9.5in or so) and it is of the Soyuz 15 crew walking in a post-mission parade. Dyomin has signed it at the bottom in the same brown colored ink. I really like this piece because of the large photo and the amount of writing on it.There is a large inscription at the top which is in Russian and I can't read. It appears to mention Soyuz 15, but that's all I can get out of it. If someone could translate it for me, I would really appreciate it.  On the back of the photo, someone has written this:  Thanks!!! |

Inscription is: "To dear Boris Alekseevich- our mentor from the crew of Soyuz-15 for lasting memory about our collaboration"On the back:
"Demin L.D.
Sarafanov G." |

Is the writing on the back signatures of is it in someone else's writing or are they signatures of the crew? It doesn't match the writing style of Dyomin's signature on the front? |

I don't think these are the signatures of the crew. I think both "Dyomin" and "Sarafanov" signed by the same hand. |

That kind of what I thought, they look like similar handwriting to me and the signatures don't match known examples that I have seen. The photo has both cosmonauts in it and I wonder if someone wrote their names on the back.Thank you for your help. I have one more cosmonaut inscription on a photo and I was hoping you could translate for me. This is the only other one that I have with an inscription in my collection. This is a bottom of a signed 4x6 photo that I received in 2002 when I wrote to Oleg Makarov at Star City. He has signed it and dated it June 7, 2002. Above the signature, there are two words... I was wondering what those two words are. Unfortunately, when the signature arrived in the mail it had smeared. Thanks again!!!  |

Isn't that English, saying "Let try" or "Let fry", whatever this means? |

It would be kind of funny if it was indeed "Let dry..." as in let the signature dry less it smudges in the mail. |

Yep, I also think it's in english: "Let try". Not sure what he meant, but considering that it is signed by the cosmonaut- it makes sense to me. |

OK, that works to me. I wrote to Mr. Marakov when I was in high school... and I mentioned in my letter that my dream was to be an astronaut. Perhaps "Let Try" is a broken English comment related to that goal. I wrote my letter in English (clearly I don't speak or write in Russian) and he may have had a very limited grasp of the English language. If that is the case, clearly he read my letter and responded to the best of his ability... which was a kind thing to do. |

It seems to me — I think it is a manuscript Dyomin. This is not an autograph and Sarafanov. Makarov fine. |
