Can I please ask for your opinions on this eBay auction for a NASA Space Shuttle Flown Frangible Explosive Nut reportedly from the final flight of Atlantis. Thank you.

That is a shuttle 3.5" frangible nut. The listing is incorrect on several points.

These were used to hold the shuttle SRBs to the launch platform prior to launch. Both halves of the nut stayed with the SRB and were then recovered after launch. A slightly different design was used during the last few years of the shuttle program. That nut definitely was not from the last flight of Atlantis.

All times are CT (US)
