I would love some opinions on my two Neil Armstrong autographs. After 40 years of collecting I am selling of a major part of my collection. Thanks. — Marc

Just curious to know where they came from, unfortunately though, I would have to say--since you asked for an opinion on them--that both are far from being authentic in my opinion. |

I have to second that opinion. They look as if someone practiced his autograph for a few minutes, then didn't come very close. |

I agree, I'm not comfortable with either of those signatures. |

Both look to be fakes from two different hands, with the WSS having a slight resemblance to an infamous forgery type. Their sources and when acquired would be of interest. |

They were both from a dealer in Bristol (UK) back in the late eighties.I thought the first one might be a bit "stiff* but the second always looked okay to me apart from the jump in the N. |

Marco: While it appears that opinions agree that the WSS Armstrong is not authentic, the date that you acquired it may be significant. Here you state that you acquired it in the late eighties, but in another forum you stated that it was acquired about 15 years ago, which would put it in the 1998-1999 time frame. That is a time frame that a large number of a certain type of Armstrong WSS forgeries were sold, of which this example has some resemblance to, and is maybe just an early less-practiced example. Could you be clearer on the time frame that you acquired this Armstrong WSS signature? Thanks. |

I hope it is removed from eBay if it is a fake. |

Bob, it wasn't as far back as the late eighties. That was the period when I had a couple of Armstrongs through the mail via NASA. It must have been I guess 15-20 years ago. |

Item removed as there seems to be a major problem. EVERYONE is ganging up on me now. lol Not just a couple of experts, so the offending item is scrubbed. |

Actually, if you're willing to ask the (often professional) opinions of some of the collectors here, you need to be prepared for an answer that an autograph is a fake. Many of the collectors here have been at it for decades, and compared to the general populace on eBay nearly all of the responders on the Opinion & Advice forum are experts. By the way, other than asking for more details (in order to qualify their opinion, AND to learn more so that they can continue to help root out forgers), no one here seems to have cast aspersions upon you. A thick hide is certainly useful for eBay. |
