For a while I have seen this STS-5 Flown Payload Bay Liner for really cheap. Do you think this is authentic? It seems a little cheap for the first operational Space Shuttle flight. Thanks.

Nope. I've got one as well, and if I recall correctly, I paid about the same or even less than the $9 they are asking for now.

The seller is a cS member, and was behind the popular "Made in Space" STS-6 polystyrene sphere plaques and presentations, among other memorabilia offerings.

Thanks for the quick replies. So you don't think this is authentic.

If you're looking for flown payload bay liners of just about any size(s), email me as this is Ken Havekotte of SpaceCoast Cover Service. I was hoping to hear from you earlier because of this topic thread.

Thanks for the info. I'll be getting rid of mine right now. So is anything purchased from this cS member actually flown, or have I been duped?

I wouldn't be so quick to throw out the STS-5 payload bay liner. The point of my reply was to say that the seller is known to be trustworthy.

The STS-6 "Made in space" plaques and presentations are authentic, without question.

The STS-5 liner could very well be authentic, too. I would suggest asking the seller about the provenance behind the artifact.

Not too sure if this applies or not, but I still have some Bay Liner presentations from STS-82 for £9.99. The liner was sourced from the very good Ken H.

A bit off topic, but when I visited Atlantis in July I wondered if the material lining the payload bay was flown, or replaced to make it look prettier. It looks pristine to me, and I was suspicious. But I had the chance to talk to Bob Cabana at the Skylab 40th dinner and Bob says it is the real stuff.
