I was wondering if anyone out there could give me an idea of how much a flown Gemini 8 Shield might be worth? My Father was given this because of the communication work he did at the Johnson Space Center. I found one online and this is the description:
Flown heat shield from the Gemini VIII space capsule. Shield fragment measures 1 x 1.75 x 1.25, with the upper portion charred and melted from the intense heat of re-entry. Fragment is affixed to a 5.5 x 2.5 wooden mount with a plaque that reads, "Heat shield from Gemini VIII, Armstrong–Scott, March 16, 1966."

I'm not sure how to attach a photo to a post, so here's the link to the one I borrowed the description from.

Mine is also in fine condition. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have seen these pieces typically go for around $1000 but the Armstrong association adds a premium; perhaps $1200 to $1400...

Thanks, Rick.

Any advice on the best way to sell it?

Well, I would say your best bet would be to first post this item here on cS in the Buy/sell forum . If you go to the threads there you can see how other members post their items to sell and they typically list the description, condition, provenance and pictures or scans of the item(s). Then they list a price, and here it would be a price chosen after research by you as to the relative value of the item you think would be fair. I say this because many of our members are very knowledgable about flown hardware and artifacts, so if your price is over the top, they will let you know.

If after listing a higher price and there are no takers, members would typically reduce the asking amount, and/or state "..or best offer." On the other hand, you can send this item to auction through a reputable auction house or even eBay but of course you could get a little less than what you're asking for. It all depends on market value and desirability. Good luck selling your item!

One of these displays was sold on eBay on July 13 for $610.
