I just came across a metal Apollo 8 Charred Heat Shield Ablator Plaque I believe would be used for an appreciation display, that I found in my father's old desk, and would like to know if anyone has seen this used in a display. It is a thin sheet of coated aluminum with the printing. |

I owned a lucite with this backing description at one point except that the text was yellow on black. A similar example is here. The black text version may be similar to this lucite, although it's difficult to make out the shape from the photo. |

Thanks so much! The black background is a perfect match except the color! I wish my father was still around to tell us the story, I'm sure he was involved in getting the artifacts together for the lucites and the piece is a prototype. It looks like the yellow plaque is missing the NASA simble on top and contractor on the bottom. I would love to make a new lucite with it, but would rather keep it in the family's collection to show his involvement with the program, what are your thoughts? |

Revisiting this 2012 thread...Interesting! Looks like it was a template for this Apollo 8 lucite: |

There were a few different patterns used for the North American Rockwell Apollo 8 heatshield acrylic presentations as shown here. The rectangle shaped presentation above has a slightly different layout than the original post. The capsule shaped presentation shown below is a match.
