I recently won this item and would like some more information. I was told by the person who sold it to me that it was given to her grandfather over 40 years ago were he worked at NASA in Mountain View California.

I would like to know for what occasion was it given for and how many copies of these 24 karat gold plaques were made. If anybody out there has more information I would be very happy if you could share.

Just a nit to pick, but if the plating is dated 1973, it couldn't have been given out "more than 40 years ago."

I have not seen one of these before.

You are right, I just quoted word by word the lady said, I am sure that mathematics says it's 39 years.

I am still very curious to see if any of you guys out there has seen any of these plaques.

I think that this Lunar Plaque might be a rare find as nobody seems to have seen one like it.

If there is anybody that might know the origins of this plaque please either e-mail me or post reply.

Try looking up "Specific Plating" on the internet. There are a number of entries referring to gold plating, etc.

I tried looking up the Specific Plating Co. but it seems that this company was formed in the year 2000 so the company was formed much later that the plaque which is dated 1973.

I might opt to contact NASA Mountain View California maybe they can help me find the origins of this plaque.

All times are CT (US)
