Have any of you ever purchased a patch from eBay that was made in Malaysia? I am curious how the transaction went. If this is the only way to obtain a patch close to the ones that I have observed SpaceX employees wear in photographs then I guess I will have to purchase one of the Malaysian made patches. Just curious if the transaction went smooth and the patch was received in a timely manner. Thanks! |

Yes, I have and had no problems at all. The patch was posted off to me here in the U.K and arrived in a matter of days. I receive emails whenever he has something new to offer in the space field. |

I have also bought several patches from them. they may take a little while to arrive but they are always well protected and I have always gotten what I ordered. Sometimes this is the only way to get replicas of some of the patches I cannot get elsewhere. |

I think it merits pointing out that unlike NASA patches, which are public domain, SpaceX's patch designs are their intellectual property (i.e. copyright). Those producing commercial replicas of their patches without SpaceX's permission are in fact stealing. I realize as collectors there is a desire to own (at the least) representations of every patch, but if SpaceX chooses not to offer such, then that is their choice. It is not a viable option to circumvent their rights and have unauthorized replicas produced and sold. |

Hear, hear Robert. I am tired of people stealing copyrighted artwork and making money off of other people's work. For those who weren't there, I had a gentleman approach my table at the ASF Show and tell me how he educated the pirates in Malayasia how to make their patches more accurate. Unbelievable! I know that the astronauts who I've designed personal or commemorative patches for don't appreciate seeing poor quality copies of their patches being sold on eBay . |

I got a "Mach 25" patch from a vendor there and had no issues other than it took a while for the mail to get here (it was sent in a timely manner from the seller’s end). The reproduction wasn’t 100% but I knew that from the photo. It was just as promised and not all that expensive. |

I have always resisted buying what I consider to be stolen artwork and inferior patches just for the sake of filling the holes in my collection in the past and always will in the future.I have been tempted a few times I admit, but I really believe it's wrong. You just can't have every patch out here and there is a certain satisfaction in finding the real deal after a long and hard search I think. |

I can't speak for anyone else, but I bought one Mach 25 patch to sew onto a jacket for a TV project I was paid to work on. The other I kept because it looks cool and I might someday put it on a blue Nomex flightsuit for a Halloween costume or something. I'm not really a space patch collector as such, just an enthusiast. If I ever encountered a real Mach 25 patch, I doubt I'd buy it (unless it was a very good deal or was used by an astronaut I have met) because it wouldn't be worth the cost of a real one to me. And I'd think that the majority of people here would rather I used a reproduction patch instead of a real one if it's going on something that is going to be used in a film or just being worn. |

Thanks for all of the replies! I too have resisted from buying these patches. Robert, you brought up a very good point in your reply about copyright. All of my patches are originals from the manufactures, ie. AB Emblem, Lion Brothers, etc. and I am going to keep it that way. Robert, a man with your connections; have you heard anything of Space X producing their patches for sale or do you know if Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's Gift Shop will be selling any memorabilia of the upcoming Falcon launch like they did for the Juno, Grail, and MSL missions? |
