A friend spotted a framed Alexei Leonov print in a store and alerted me. I couldn't find any information about it on the web – but I know where to find experts, so here I am. Please forgive me if I am unfamiliar with the customs of this forum. The painting is entitled "Docking" and this is marked as print 053 of 500 in the white space below the picture, alongside Gen. Leonov's signature. It portrays a bluish Apollo command module and docking adapter, seen end-on, with Earth below. the circle of the Apollo is just tangent to the curve of the Earth.
A certificate in an envelope on the back of the frame indicates that it's published by the Sovietski Collection, and also indicates that it's 053/500. The top of the certificate reads:
Certificate of Authenticity
Limited Edition, Hand-Signed and Numbered 'Artist's Proofs'
Then there are a couple of paragraphs of history. The thing seems to be in good shape, to my untrained eye. I'd like to own this, but the store is asking considerably more than I'd like to pay.
I came here to ask: What might one typically expect to pay for such a Leonov print? (I'd like to get a bargain, of course, but if a reasonable price is too high, I'll just walk away.)
Prints of other Leonov paintings, from what I can determine by googling, seem to go for 50 to 75 bucks (less?) when people actually buy them, though there are certainly dealers asking for $250 or $300 here and there.
Another good question is: Why doesn't "Docking" seem to be mentioned or pictured online? Maybe not many were sold.
