I am the recipient of inscribed Young and Crippen autographs. I would like to know the value of them. I believe it's a photo of the STS-1 launch. I'm picking it up tomorrow, so I'll have more details then. Thanks for your help! UPDATE: The item signed wasn't a photo, it's a post card from the Hotel Utah, signed about the time of STS-1 and uninscribed. The other items received are an STS-1 patch and Shuttle program sticker. The lady who gave these to me, her son is with NASA at KSC. His name is Chip Bingham, and he is at KSC, as I said. I don't remember hearing about him. Randy And yes, I plan on keeping these items! |

I can recall two STS-1 crew-signed photos, without inscriptions, each selling for about $120 on eBay earlier this year. If your inscriptions are personalized, you can probably reduce the value by about 30%.So, best guess, currently as we approach the end of the shuttle program, about $140 give or take about $20. |

For what it's worth, I think it might be worth a bit more than that. The crew signed a lot of items, but John Young signatures are still relatively scarce. I'd put the value at closer to $200 for an inscribed piece, and quite a bit higher if uninscribed. You might find it for less at some point on eBay, or you might be able to sell it for more. Or... you could just keep it. |

Just for some recent references to shuttle-related Young autographs, here's an example of a more unique signed item which averaged about $160 each on an eBay auction. These would also be more unique, from a June 2011 Heritage Auction: Lot 41235, an unflown STS-1 Robbins Medallion, which sold for about $360 (buyer's premium inclusive) and included a Young-signed Letter of Authenticity. The Robbins Medallion alone, without any provenance, would likely have sold for at least $250 here on cS or on eBay. I think that was great value for the winning bidder. This item too is pretty unique and sold for about $260. Typically, items selling on a Heritage auction will fetch better prices compared to eBay. I might normally be able to reference the STS-1 crew signed photos that I noted earlier but those eBay auctions are over 3 months old and were automatically deleted on one of my "watch" lists. |

You read my mind, George and this is exactly why I bid on the item. I sat in my recliner on Friday night watching the simulcast. I saw the item come up for bid and did a quick math equation in my head."Hmmmm....Novaspace charges $495 for a Young autograph, this lot comes with a signed LOA, the Robbins Medallion is from Young's personal collection, and no one is bidding on it at $300. BID NOW!" |

Congrats Greg. I'm glad someone else here saw the bargain. I'd have competed with you but money's tight for me right now. | |
