I have a scarf that was given to me from my grandmother featuring the Apollo 11 moon landing. It's in great shape and has a typed letter from the company stating that this was a prototype that was to be given to dignitaries that attended the launch.

I was wondering what the value would be for such a great piece of the space race history. Thanks for the help.

I haven't an idea of price, but wanted to comment that it's really a great looking item.

There's a large community of vintage scarf collectors as well, so it definitely has value as a cross-collectible--especially being a prototype and dating from the 60s.

Good luck with the scarf and thanks for sharing it!

The letter suggests to me that the scarf is not a prototype but perhaps a replica souvenir. It is dated for July 20, 1969, the date of the moon landing, and refers to the launch in the past tense.

If I recall correctly, the scarf itself is inscribed July 21, 1969, the date of the landing in Europe, which would presumably not have been printed until after the landing occurred.

The letter's mention that none of the scarves have been sold to date suggest they were distributed prior to this letter being written.

Not that a souvenir scarf is without value. As a point of comparison, a scarf created by Neiman-Marcus to benefit the astronaut Edward H. White Memorial Youth Center in 1969, which sold then for $20 each (with 2,000 produced) has in the recent years sold for as much as $200 at auction. That scarf, which was designed for White's widow, featured the imprinted signatures of 52 astronauts.

I have always wondered about my Apollo 11 scarf, almost identical to the one pictured above. I believe, however, that mine is Italian. Printed on the LEM are two lines: "21 LUGLIO 1969," and "USA ORE 217." Does anyone have an idea how rare it is, and the value?

One of these sold on eBay a couple of months ago. A nice looking piece.

Do you happen to remember the price it sold for? Even ballpark...
