I recently acquired this litho.

Accompanying it was this letter plus the original NASA mailing envelope (address matches the address on the letter) and some circa-1972 NASA pamphlets, mostly Skylab.

It looks like a keeper to me ... any thoughts?

And, I do realize that you can only provide your opinions, etc ... in MY opinion, it looks good. I compared it to the circa-1972 sigs in the Armstrong autograph study posted in "resources" on this site, and it seems to compare favorably. I purchased it from a lady in Georgia (the original recipient was in Rossville GA).

Incidentally, in the scan it looks like there is a scratch in the litho next to Neil's right ear, but that is actually just one of my dog's hairs on the scanner bed.

Thanks for any opinions.

Gotta love the original NASA letter as provenance - it certainly makes the possibility of a forgery quite tiny. So that leaves autopen or secretarial as negative possibilities... and I don't think it's either. Looks like a wonderful find to me.

Hello, I am sure its good. I was going to buy it now for $1000, and I first sent the photo to my collectSPACE friends, I heard back after you bought it! Wanna sell it? I will give you $1100 for your trouble?

Oh man, now I am really bummed!

I just found the listing on eBay. I haven't even been looking there for Armstrong items because of the rampant fakes.

This one was an absolute deal of a lifetime!

Congratulations again John... you definitely deserve it!

I also just looked at eBay's completed listings and saw this item. Or rather, I recognized it - I had seen it when it was still running but wasn't interested because the seller didn't mention they had a freakin' letter from NASA saying (to paraphrase) "Here is a signed photo of Neil Armstrong"!

With so many Armstrong forgeries on eBay, I just didn't pay enough attention. The letter is mentioned, but only as saying that it described plans for women astronauts. And it's shown too small to make out the print. You must have asked the seller for a clearer photo of the letter. Good going!

When I saw the listing, I realized immediately that I would have to act quickly. I liked the fact that the litho was accompanied by the entire package sent from NASA, and the seller was selling other things (antiques, etc) so it was (in my view) less likely that this seller was generating forgeries.

In our e-mail communication after I bought the litho, the seller said that she had "way more interest in it than she had anticipated".

I compared the sig to other examples from the early 70's, and it looked good, so I decided to pull the trigger.

Thanks for the opinions!

I glossed over it too, but in my case, because of the price! $1000 to me is A LOT of money, but now that I further analyze the photo (condition, uninscribed, NASA letter) you did get one hell of a bargain. Congrats!
