This has already been discussed on other websites, but since I can't find a consensus I'd love to hear the opinions of cS members. What do you think is the best day of the week, and time of that day, to have an auction end? When will there be the most bidders paying attention and hopefully bidding? There are all sorts of considerations: more people on computers during the day but possibly not free to bid at work, commuting times, free time but more distractions at home in the evening, etc. Thanks, Steve |

If the item is available to all (i.e. country unrestricted) I suspect you'd wish to time the closing to coincide with as many potential overseas buyers as you can attract without alienating the "locals" |

Most of my favorite sellers seem to have bids that close at 9 pm Eastern time, and frequently the best items close on a Sunday evening. |

It has happened to me lots of times I had to go to bed and was forced to place a bid I would be happy with and hope for the best.On the one hand this can be good for the seller to get a higher price if other bidders decide to outbid me. On the other hand I am not physically there to go higher. For me that is a good thing concerning emotional bidding, for the seller it is a disadvantage needless to state. So, where does that leave us? I suppose it doesn't really matter. The advantages and disadvantages will cancel each other out. Ruud |

The weekend is probably the best time for most people, with Sunday probably being better than Saturday. If you want overseas buyers to participate (and they make up a significant percentage of high bidders on most space collectibles) then you should aim for an end time prior to midnight European time. Midnight here in mainland Europe is 11pm in the UK, 6pm on the East coast and 3pm on the West coast. Seems to me that allows a pretty large percentage of buyers worldwide to actively participate. I just wish some of the big auction houses would take overseas times into account and start there auctions earlier. They loose a lot of money when they run on into the early hours of the morning European time. |
