I am new to the space collecting world and I could use some advice.

I have been offered the Code 3 lunar rover with case, lunar module with case and astronaut for about £1250 ($2500). All Mint, opened but never displayed.

Is this a good deal? How much do the individual models usually sell for?

Thanks

Vortex,

$2500 IMHO is way over the top. From memory these models sold for around $140 each and towards the end of production $49 each; only a year or two ago.

If you are prepared to be patient and bide your time they will crop up at auction or ebay for anywhere between $150 and $300 each.

Regards,

Rick

Gee... I bought them when they were selling them at 49$ including free plexiglas cover. When I called to ask if they were going to produce other space related models, they told me "no, our Star Wars (production models) are big hits, but as you can see, we are obliged to discount our Space collection".

And NOW people are dying to get 'em. Weird...

Vortex,

I have a Code 3 Astronaut that is in mint condition with all the paperwork (it's never been out of the box). If you're interested please send an e-mail to:

randyconstantin@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Randy

Vortex - this is way too much even though they are a little more tricky to obtain nowadays. The astronaut is the easiest to find and you will see it for around $150 (tops $220). The lunar rover and LEM are more difficult but they should be no more than $400 tops. There was also a code 3 model of Alan Shepard doing his golf shot (similar in size to the "astronaut" - or Gene Cernan A17). In my experience this is the hardest of all the code 3 space models to find and I have only seen it for sale a couple of times. There were also the three capsules which were sold separately (Mercury, Gemini and Apollo). A year ago the original run were selling for upwards of $800+ on the secondary market but the rights were purchased from code 3 and they have recently been re made and are easy to find at the moment. You can get them for appro $120 each and they look identical to the first run 5 years or so ago. I hope this helps. Paul

Makes me glad that I got all 4 (Rover, LM, Golf shot and astronaut with flag) a few years ago. At the time I got the LM I think it was $79 but the others were only $49 plus shipping. MEGA bargain!!

I wish I'd bought the Code 3 Mercury/Gemini/Apollo capsules though.... Those suckers are even harder to track down.

Hi machbusterman

As Paul pointed out you can get the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo easily on Ebay and at a good price too, they are identical to the original run from code 3 as well as being marked code 3 underneath them all on the stands.

The only difference between the original run and the ones they are running now is the box is different and you don't get a certificate with them but they are great models all the same and the Apollo model is quite big,but unfortunately i had to put them away about a month ago as my son at 16 months picked up the Mercury one and started banging it on the table but fortunately did not break it.

Anyway hope this helps.

Hi Rob,

I remember being in the NASM in DC in 2004 when they had those capsules on display. I was tempted to buy them but choked... wish to heck I hadn't but thanks for the reminder that they're on eBay every once in a while.

Best regards, Derek
