On this Apollo 17 crew-signed cover, I think the Schmitt looks like an autopen, but not so sure about the Cernan and Evans. Do they look hand-signed? |

The Schmitt does appear to be an autopen; the Cernan and Evans are genuine in my opinion. |

A word of caution. I've since had a couple people email me that they are uncomfortable with the Apollo 17 signatures. Also the seller (in Germany) is auctioning what appears to be a bogus/forged Armstrong. |

The Schmitt looks like an autopen, but why should the Cernan and Evans be wrong? Who would fake Cernan and Evans on an autopen signed Schmitt cover? Doesn't really makes sense to me... rather someone sent in the cover to the three astronauts then and got two real and one autopen signature, a common problem in those days when you sent in cover to three Apollo astronauts. The maker of the cover is a well known space dealer (not active anymore) from the 70s and 80s. |

They seem alright to me, Cernan and Evans.Even for Schmitt, I would like to see a plain good 90 degree angle scan before making a judgement. For the cover (Astro Documenta), my recollection is that these were initially produced by a Swiss (not German) dealer by the name of Hans Groth. Some of his covers were also sold through German dealers (namely Rautschke), but they originally came from Switzerland. The autographs were added later, probably by some collector sending covers to the Astronaut Office or the individual astronauts after the time. |
