This item is listed as having been signed on the title page by Deke Slayton. As far as I can recall Deke passed away before the book was published. Can someone advise if that was the case? Many thanks, Derek |

Deke passed away on June 13, 1993 so if the book was published in 1994 as stated it does raise a few questions!David |

Michael Cassutt confirmed that there were never any copies signed by Slayton in this thread. |

There's probably a message in this about the limited value of postive ebay feedback. It's certainly odd that this person sells signed book, but doesn't seem to show the signature in any of the sales (or at least not the books that I looked at). |

I got an e-mail from the seller today. I did not ask for permission to post his message here, so I will pass on the general idea.He apologized for the delay in getting back to me, and he said that there was an error in the listing so he was going to end the auction and re-list. The book is not actually signed by Deke, it has a laid-in bookplate signed by Deke. Apparently, the consignor received 2 book plates from Deke in 1992 (not sure if they are blank book plates or not). ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |

Thanks guys! The seller has now ended the auction because "The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale."Definitely a seller to avoid and like "medaris" said, unusual for a seller selling signed books to NOT show an image of the signature. Thanks again, Derek |

Hmm... interesting reply. To quote the listing on eBay verbatim: quote: SIGNED by Donald K. Slayton directly on the title page (not on a bookplate).Donald K. Slayton has not inscribed this book to anyone; it is just signed by Donald K. Slayton.
That quote from the listing certainly differs from what you mentioned in his email.- Derek |

From his e-mail, he was under the impression from the consignor that the book was signed -- when I asked, he checked the book and said he realized that it was actually on a book plate.I did not mention anything about the publication date of the book vs. the date Deke passed away... his e-mail sounded reasonable to me. He did not send me a scan of the signature, however. ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |
