I am trying to send a book to Sir Edmund Hillary to be signed and asked at the post office how to set up return postage from new Zealand. They had no clue I mentioned International Return Coupons and that sparked a memory but noone there had a clue how to do it. What is the best way to set up return postage back from New Zealand??? I would really like to send this book out. Or is my PO just being useless with the IRC's???Thanks Postal type people My apologies if this is posted in the wrong place |

From the USPS website: quote: [International] Reply coupons may be requisitioned by Post Office facilities in the same manner as postage stamps. The coupons should be stocked at Post Office facilities that have a demand for them.
Which more or less translates to you are likely better off purchasing international postage for the country you are requesting the reply or including the money to cover return postage. It appears that you can purchase New Zealand postage online: http://www.nzpost.co.nz/ |

A few years back, I asked the Swiss Post Office about International Reply Coupon and from the look on their face, it was as if I came from Mars... Other members have told you how to proceed. One other option would be to buy NZ stamps from a philatelic shop- if such thing exist where you live. Drawback: they will charge you for them (their profit margin) and based on Swiss experience, that can be fairly high.

As I tell my students, you can "Google" anything. . . As you google, International Reply Coupon, Wikipedia and other links turn up. It appears that International Reply Coupons now cost in the vicinity of $1.85 U.S. and can be requested/ordered at any U.S. Post Office if you know the right words to say and cite the postal code regulations. I used to use IRC's many years ago as I sent QSL/Radio Reception Reports to international short wave radio stations. I can't remember where I obtained IRC's. What an ecleptic(crazy/unusual/diversified) bunch we are! Garry |
