Hi all,I found a book on Ebay here that looked interesting. I'm not familiar with Von Braun's signature to make a comparison, but I met Fred Ordway at the Saturn Reunion a few months ago and got something signed and it's not even close. Just wondering what others thought, and if this was a limited edition print originally without the autographs. It looks like a cool book. It's item #110031242564 Regards, Geoff [Edited by collectSPACE Admin (September 18, 2006).] |

That doesn't look like any Von Braun signature I've seen before. Unless he had some alternate style of signature that he only used for this book, I'd say this one is a fake.Plus, the private auction is a red flag. |

Without a doubt this is NOT Wernher von Braun's signature.Von Braun probably has the most consistant signature in the whole US space program (astronauts included), so it's fairly easy to recognize his signature though due to his always similar looking autograph his Autopen is indeed dangerous. A simple Google search for "von braun signature" gets you several authentic samples to compare. Florian ------------------ Flown artifacts, autographs and more ! www.spaceflori.com |

The book sold in a private auction for $325. The seller was contacted about his "mistake" but never replied and just continued his auction. EBay seller "zermelo" should be watched to see if he tries to sell other fake space material. What's especially sad about this is that the forger wasn't even close to replicating a genuine Wernher von Braun autograph and possibly didn't have an example to go by. Bob Mc. |
