I found this photo on eBay and am wondering if this view is possible. I have been to the Cape a few times and from my recollections this view would be impossible. Is the photo faked or am I wrong? |

I have never seen a picture quite like this, but I don't see why it isn't possible. |

From ApolloArchive.com: A C-135 aircraft, flying at more than 35,000 feet, photographed the launch of the Apollo 7 space vehicle. The image, taken from the ocean side and at such a high altitude, gave the appearance that the launch was from beside the VAB. Here's the same image on NASA's server. |

Yes, as a kid I remember seeing this photo for the first time--I believe--in Life magazine on their Apollo 7 report issue. I have a few glossies of the same print (#107-KSC-68PC-187) dated 10-11-68; Apollo 7 launch day. From my understanding it was indeed an actual image photographed from a high flying C-135 support aircraft from Patrick AFB, shot from just the right angle at about 35,000 feet altitude, that was able to capture this unique view. Bizarre isn't it? |

Thanks folks. It is really an interesting view. It makes the VAB look large and out of scale as well as the vehicle appear really close to the ground from that perspective.
