As you all probably know, I recently sold a flown to the Moon on Apollo 15 flag for Al Worden on eBay. Today I received an email from one of the non winning bidders thanking me for the second chance offer and he'd be delighted. So I emailed him back and said I hate to disappoint you but, I did not send one and can you send me the email you got? It came from a yahoo email address (of course) not mine. Very well done email, replete with all legit eBay links, art, you name it. The email address of course, was the first giveaway...but it said in the email to send payment to the email address and for further info to respond through the "contact a member" link. Fortunately the person contacted me BEFORE sending in payment - but if you get a non winning bidder, beware of second chance offers. Soon's I figure out who to report this too I am. eBay of course, does not make contact easy. |

Yes, and if you ever get one of those with Paypal all over it, you forward those to spoof@paypal.com as well.[This message has been edited by ejectr (edited March 01, 2006).] |

Just move your mouse over the links and you'll see the address on the bottom. Usually some ISP or an IP address with show up. I hate those things! I do know that I onece got suckered into logging into one of those Ebay ones, but got lucky and my foolishness didn't bite me. *whew*I know better now. Tom

I got an odd "ebay" contact seller email. The reply from the bidder, in this standard form contact letter, wanted to know when his items would be shipped. The problem is I have never sold anything ever on ebay and haven't purchased anything in months. The big omission in the letter was that there was no item description or item number. I forwarded it to ebay. |

THE BEST ADVICE HERE IS :ONLY REPLY TO EMAILS THAT YOU ALSO SEE IN YOUR "MY EBAY" Message Center ! That way you can be sure that it's not a fake or spoof email. Florian ------------------ Flown artifacts, autographs and more ! www.spaceflori.com |

In the years that I have been using EBay I've seen it evolve from an enjoyable and good place to buy and sell with a few low-lifes, to a mine-field of crooks, wasters, and fraudsters. Its now an extremely high risk venue to buy and sell. Shame, but the reality is when you have a userid on Ebay you leave yourself open to every fraudster around.I dont see Ebay making any real efforts to protect their users, in the same way that they have never made any real effort to clean up their autograph sections. I would close with "caveat emptor" but these days it should be "user beware". |
