Hi all,

have you ever seen such signatures (see linked pictures) from the astronauts Mike Foale and Ulf Merbold? Do you think these autographs are genuine?

I bought these signed photos thru ebay from the member "yana2310" a few weeks ago.

Thanks for your opinions.

I have never dealt with nor heard of yana2310.

The Merbold looks good to me. I only have one genuine autograph from Foale but it is somewhat different from yours. I don't remember any posts of anybody questioning these types of Russian autographs. With this in mind I would say the autographs are ok.

The Foale's look similar to ones I've received in person from him, his signature seems to vary, even in a few seconds time, i.e. if he signs 2 items for you at the same time, both will possibly look slightly different

Hi In2space,

I purchased two NASA Michael Foale signed items from Donnis Willis earlier this year and neither of the autographs on mine looks remotely like the one you have posted.

Having said that I agree with "thump", the two I have show some differences.

I tried to add a scan of one of my items to this post but was unsuccessful. I'll email it to you separately and hope it helps.

Hi again In2space

I see you don't have a current email address listed. If you let me have it I'll send you the scan of my Foale.

Also had a look at "yana2310". An eBay Member for just 5 months based in the Ukraine but seems to have done a lot of business in that time with 670 "positive" feedback rating (4 negative).

Some very cheap prices for what may be sought after items.

However, virtually all auctions "private ID" and only accepts cash or bank transfer.

I don't know what other CollectSpace Members think but given the choice I prefer to deal with collectors / dealers like Donnis.

Hi thump,

I would be very interested in some scans of the Foale autographs which you received in person, especially because they seem to look similar to mine. Please send me some pictures via email (my email address is activated here now) or please post the links here.

Thank you very much.

Hello Peter Kemp,

I am also very interested in the scans of your Foale autographs.

My email address is listed here now.

A word to "yana2310". "She" is from the Ukraine but "she" is located in Germany and "she" also delivers from Germany with registered mail. A very good service.

The offered payment methods are normal for "german" ebay sellers.

The very most autographed items from "yana2310" look very good for me. I just wanted to find out if Mike Foale changed his typical handwriting.
I added aswell the Merbold autograph because all my other signatures (received in person) look a bit different in some special details.

Thank you very much.

The seller is most likely to be connected to an individual by the name of Sergei Chizhov. Several of the signed and unsigned covers are "Chizhov productions".

Originally an Ukrainian, Chizhov emigrated to Germany I think some time in the late 80s or early 90s, continuing a business of space covers he had already started while living in his country. He lived in the Nuremberg area (Fürth, just like "jana"), and collaborated with a major space cover dealer in Germany, Carsten Fuchs. However, the co-operation seems to have ended at some point.

Ever since, no space related business is known from him. According to unconfirmed rumours, his business interests moved to other entertainment areas, namely movies.

In the case of "jana 2310", the payments are to be made by bank draft to a Fürth based bank account, the standard procedure in Germany. The accounts owner is identified as "Kino-Post" in the city of Fürth. Kino-Post seems to be a publication dealing with movies, "Kino" meaning "movie theatre" in German. There is a website at "www.kino-post.com", but only the Russian version is operational. They seem to sell (produce?) movies and DVD.

Hope this helps,
