Here is an autograph of the deceased teacher in space Christa McAuliffe. It doesn't look like any signature of her that I have ever seen. Do you guys think it's a fake? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2163038755&category=14438 They have a cover signed by each of the STS-51-L crewmembers and all of them look like they could be forged, but this is the worst. What do you think? |

The seller is a very reputable person who seems to be selling off his collection. I am sure he would not knowingly sell anything that was forged. His knowledge of signatures and autopens is very good. Hope this is of some help.Regards, Ian from Oz. |

Here's another in that style: http://www.collectspace.com/collection/autographs-mcauliffe.html I was concerned when I first obtained my signature because there is another, more common style to her autograph. However, after seeing numerous examples since, I am convinced its authentic. (I'll also second that the seller is well respected and I believe when he says he received these in the mail.) |

Works for me, I had never seen a signature like that. I've only seen the more common form. Sorry for the mistake guys. |

From what I know this type of McAuliffe signature is authentic - I have also seen several examples signed that way.Florian |

I can also vouch for this seller. I was fortunate enough to purchase a full set of Teacher in Space covers from him, signed by the 10 finalists, from Astro-auction last year. Many of the covers were inscribed to Robert, this seller, and the Christa McAuliffe is identical to those examples shown here. I think it is safe to say that you can bid with confidence in this case. I did email bobsspace when he did not list two weeks ago. I mention if he was selling off his personal collection.he said yes he was. he had been collecting for 30 years. he mention he has a large collection of signed postal covers. notice on the photos they are address to a Robert. that is his first name. |

Would-be first teacher-in-space Christa McAuliffe did in fact respond to autographs in either one or two patterns; both are genuine. It appears, perhaps early on, that she did sign her full name, "S. Christa McAuliffe"; whereas other signatures, perhaps her quicker "less time" response was only signed, "S.C. McAuliffe" that appears different with the "S and C," but usually in every instance is the same last name pattern. Just my thoughts and the cachet cover that she signed illustrated on the ebay lot is one of my rubber-stamp cachet productions for the launch of STS-5/Columbia in 1982. Boy does that bring back memories, and my personal encounters with Christa as I admired her very much. |
