I recently won an auction on Ebay. (Item #244037881) The price was very low until the last day of the auction. Then it shot up from about $13 to $76 due to [email protected]. I was curious about this and did a little checking. The following is a synopsis of my findings:I am 99.9% sure that [email protected] and [email protected] are the same person. This person sells under these two names. Astros gave me his name. "Gdan" was a major component of his first and last name. Therefore that thread is simple to see. What connected these two sellers together, is that there is a third user ID which has bid on virtually everything they sell. This is [email protected]. Eddi usually bids high in the last several hours of each auction. Furthermore, they, like myself are AOL users. I programmed them all into my "Buddies Online" function. (Though I only added the "gdan" ID last night), I have found that "Astros" and "Eddie" are never online at the same time, but, they generally logon right after each other. Unfortunately, I already mailed my check before I really studied this. I only mailed it yesterday, and I am considering paying the $12 charge for a stop payment. I wish you all the best.

That's why I strongly recommend that you stay away from bidding on any autographs featured on EBay .... especially when EBay readily admits that upwards of 90% of them may be fake! You really run the risk of being taken. It's clowns like this that will ultimately destroy the hobby of autograph collecting -- we will eventually get to the point where it will be very difficult to tell a fake from the real McCoy. I would also be very reluctant to spend any real money with an EBay seller with little to no feed back. |

AstrosRus is one of the two that recently put up Roger Chaffee autopens which were claimed to be authentic signatures. Below is his response to me after I questioned if his was an autopen. If you compare ebay items # 243998072 and # 246322412 it's obvious they are both the same autopen signatures.Dan Mangieri ---------- > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Chaffee signed photo > Date: Monday, January 24, 2000 2:15 AM > > Hello Dan, > It is an authentic signature. I am happy to report that Ebay just sent me the following message, due to a report I sent them. The information you have provided has resulted in the suspension of [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; and, [email protected] for Shill Bidding, Deliberate. You are under no obligation to complete this transaction as non-registered users are not permitted to conduct business on eBay. However, this is solely up to you since you have already sent the money.
Well, I did cancel the check, to the tune of $12. All in all, I had a blast nailing this guy, and that was worth the $12.
However, who knows in what manisfestation he will resurface. All we can do, is share our experiences with each other and make autograph collecting a little better each day. Regards
