The Southern Colorado Space Museum has acquired a number of large pieces of simulated Mars terrain that were used in a display years ago. We've used what we need and are now giving away the rest. If anyone is interested, you are welcome to any or all of it.

There are 13 pieces in total. Some are in crates, some are loose. This is all free for the taking. You only need to arrange shipping. Here is a list of the pieces that are crated:

    Crate dimensions / Total weight
  • 111" x 93" x 62" / 1060 lbs.
  • 111 x 70 x 52 / 795 lbs.
  • 94 x 63 x 37 / 530 lbs.
  • 92 x 51 x 35 / unknown
  • 67 x 39 x 33 / 265 lbs.
We have eight pieces that are free standing. E-mail me and I'll provide photos. Anyone is welcome to see these items in person at the museum with prior arrangements.

These were professionally made by a prop company for Lockheed Martin. They are foam cores with epoxy coatings, air brushed to Mars terrain features. There is also one that is a lunar terrain. They could all be painted to a lunar terrain as well. If there is any interest, feel free to contact me. — Steve Janssen

Cool! (But I don't think the missus would let me landscape the yard with any of it.)

I did enjoy my online museum tour today. The museum is now on my bucket list.

All times are CT (US)
