This photo shows Gus Grissom speaking by phone with President Kennedy just after his Liberty Bell 7 Mercury mission. (His hair is still wet from his near-drowning in the Atlantic Ocean.) It was inscribed to the same person at Langley Field (the original home of Project Mercury) as was this photo from an earlier cS discussion. The back has tape remnants. They don't show through, but a tiny strip is visible along the very top edge of the front. Also on the back, someone (probably the recipient) wrote in pen "21 July '61" — the date of Liberty Bell 7. This also does not show through. I will send a photo of the back, as well as higher-resolution photos of the front, to any interested parties. This photo is rarer and more interesting than his business suit posed photos. The last one to sell at auction went for $2125. (It was not inscribed, but had much fainter writing.) This photo is $1600, plus $20 for insured Priority mail shipping. |
